Privacy policy
This site is run by Timothy Birkl. Questions about your data, or a request to see or delete it: hello@timothybirkl.com.
What I keep when you run the free check
| Your email | To tie the report to you and follow up about it. Needed to run the check. |
|---|---|
| The website address you checked | To run the check and know which report is yours. |
| The time and number of snags found | To follow up on the right report. |
| Whether you ticked the updates box | And the exact words you agreed to, as proof of your consent. |
Your internet address (IP) is held in memory for up to one hour to stop the checker being overused, then dropped. It is not written to disk.
Why I’m allowed to
Running your check and following up on it: you asked for the report, and following up on it is in both our interests (legitimate interests, UK and EU GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). You can object at any time by email, and I stop.
Updates: only if you ticked the box, which is never ticked for you (consent, Art. 6(1)(a)). Untick it any time by replying “unsubscribe” to any email or writing to the address above.
How long
Check records without the updates box: deleted 12 months after the check. If you ticked the box: until you unsubscribe.
Who else sees it
Nobody gets your data to use for themselves. It sits on a server I rent from DigitalOcean. Checking your site means my server visits that site, like any visitor would.
Cookies and tracking
None. This site sets no cookies, loads no trackers or analytics, and serves its fonts from its own server.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its use, and take it elsewhere. Email me; I answer within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (UK, ico.org.uk) or the Data Protection Commission (Ireland, dataprotection.ie).
